Notes on Ingredients
- Cauliflower: Fresh or frozen works. Be sure it’s broken up into small pieces/florets so it’s easy for the blender to blend. I used the Braga Fresh cauliflower for this smoothie from Josie’s Organics, an amazing all organic company that grows their produce in the fertile California Valley.
- Banana: I prefer to use frozen banana to make this smoothie extra creamy and milkshake-like, but fresh would work too.
- Protein powder: I like to use this chocolate peanut butter vegan protein powder, but any kind will work. You can also substitute with 2 tablespoon cacao powder.
- Almond milk: Any non-dairy milk works. Soy milk would be great to boost the protein content.
- Stevia: If you don’t like stevia, you can replace it with an additional date for extra sweetness.

Commonly Asked Questions
Nope! The chocolate protein, dates, and peanut butter really conceal any cauliflower flavor. It just adds bulk and extra nutrition to this smoothie!
You can use fresh or frozen. I prefer frozen because it gives the smoothie a thicker, creamier texture.
I like to use this Wellious Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Powder. If you want to skip the protein powder, substitute 2 tablespoon of cacao powder.
Yes! Use sunflower seed butter. You can also replace the peanut butter with almond butter if you just want peanut-free.
Their family farming business dates back to the 1920’s, when two young Swiss immigrants, Sebastian and Josie Braga decided to start growing beets, tomatoes, onions, hay and corn.
Today, three generations later, the organic family farming tradition is being kept alive! Josie’s Organics harvests over 25 varieties of USDA certified organic veggies. How incredible?!
If I see Josie’s Organics in the grocery store, I snatch it up real quick because it’s truly such fresh produce. You can find their produce at stores like Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Sprouts and many more. Josie’s Organics doesn’t use any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides on their farms. This is so important! I’ll admit I was skeptical about the cauliflower at first. …but I’ve made this recipe twice now & it’s really good! The changes I made which dialed it it even further for me were (per serving):
-used a *frozen* banana
-3/4 tsp cinnamon
-one Tbsp cocoa powder (instead of the protein powder)
-soy milk (instead of almond milk)
-3 dates total (instead of the date + stevia powder)
It really does have a cinnamon bun flavor, the cauliflower flavor is not detectable, & it’s surprisingly *really* good! 😁

Can I use vanilla protein powder in this instead of chocolate?
Thanks!

YES!

I’d been using spinach in my smoothie for awhile but got sick of the texture of it. I wanted something else. I found this one and I’m in love. It is so good. I use a vanilla protein powder instead and double up in cinnamon. And instead of stevia I use organic agave sweetener. It tastes like a cinnamon bun in a smoothie. I’m obsessed with this smoothie!

Hi! For a nut-free version, can I use tahini instead of peanut butter? What do you think, it’s still be good? Thank you:)
Danielle Keith says
I would use sunflower butter instead of tahini or Kween and Co oat butter.
Yummy! says
Loved this smoothie. I thought I had dates, but they were gone. So I added no extra sweetener and it tasted plenty sweet to me. I like the thickness the frozen cauliflower adds.
Jess says
I’m excited to try this! Do I need to use fresh cauliflower that I freeze the night before, or can I use cauliflower that was purchased frozen from the grocery store freezer section?
Danielle Keith says
Either way!
Krista says
I forgot the cauliflower and changed the cinnamon to 3/4 tsp. I also added extra water to the smoothie to make it a drinkable consistency. It was good, which is why I gave the recipe 4 stars, but my husband and I both agreed it did not taste anything like a Cinnabon.
very good says
Krista , I agree, very good , but not like a cinnamon roll, more like a chocolate shake.
Jess says
Cannot taste the cauliflower! I used vanilla protein powder, vanilla stevia drops and add more Cinnamon! I think next time I will freeze the banana.
Lou Church says
What is the nutritional breakdown please?
very good says
I tried this today, very tasty- but I’m getting more chocolate that cinnamon roll. I omitted the dates and added a tlbs of real maple syrup ( I tasted it before the syrup and it was definitely in need of sweetening up). I would love to have a nutritional breakdown, but I’m guessing around 185 per 1/2 the recipe?

This smoothie is delicious. I used PB2 instead of the peanut butter and it was perfectly sweet with two small dates and the stevia omitted. Definitely a go to! Feels indulgent but also nutrient packed thank you for this recipe! I am always looking for on the go ideas for my commute to work this hits the spot!

Love this ! I’m also keto. So I took out the banana and replaced it with frozen avocado. I also added a couple of frozen coconut milk cubes to replace the ice. I used stevia drops and 1 date. It was thick, creamy and delicious ! Keep these recipes coming!

This smoothie is delicious! I needed to use some cauliflower that was sitting around …I’d make this again. You don’t taste the cauliflower. It’s creamy and yummy!
Michelle says
I omitted the date and the sweetener, it didn’t need it. Used PB2 powder for the peanut butter, and I only had vanilla protein so I used that and 1tbsp of cocoa.
Delicious! This will be in my regular rotation. Thanks!
Michelle says
This was delicious, thank you!!! It’s been in my regular rotation for a while and I have it tweaked to my liking. I would say it’s more chocolate tasting than cinnamon bun but I love it.
I omit the dates and sweetener, PB2 for the peanut butter, chocolate protein + 1/2tsp of cacao. 1 cup milk, 1 cup ice and a splash of vanilla extract. Delicious!!!
