Why I Love This Recipe
- Kid-Friendly: What kid doesn’t LOVE french toast?! Make them these homemade Vegan French Toast Sticks and they’ll be asking for them again and again!
- Whole Grains: I use my favorite whole-grain bread, as opposed to white bread, so these Vegan French Toast Sticks are loaded with protein and fiber. Plus, whole-grain bread yields a much more delicious French toast!
- Healthy Alternative: Store-bought French toast sticks are made with refined flours, cane sugar and high fructose corn syrup, and artificial flavors and preservatives. This homemade version is made with good-for-you ingredients.

Notes on Ingredients
- Whole-Grain Bread: For bread, I prefer to use Ezekiel bread as it’s high in protein and fiber and makes a delicious French toast. You can also use gluten-free bread (or any kind of bread) if needed.
- Milk: Use an unsweetened non-dairy milk like almond or soy.
- Flaxseeds: Ground flaxseeds help create the “batter” without any need for eggs. Be sure to use pre-ground flaxseeds.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice: Feel free to omit, but pumpkin pie spice adds a delicious fall flavor to this French toast.

Commonly Asked Questions
Yes! Cook them as usual, let them cool, and then store them in a freezer-safe bag until you’re ready to eat them. Pop them in the toaster or microwave for a couple of minutes until warmed when you’re ready to eat.
These Vegan French Toast Sticks require no eggs because of a bit of ground flaxseeds in the batter which help it to bind, thicken, and hold together beautifully. The flax also helps the bread to get crispy and golden in a pan. No eggs needed! This process is similar to Easy Vegan French Toast.
I recommend using a sprouted bread like Ezekiel whole-grain bread! If you’re gluten-free, don’t worry, you can use any gluten-free bread you like. Other bread recommendations: vegan challah, sourdough, soft bread of any kind, regular whole wheat, etc.
Obviously, French toast needs toppings, so I like to do pure maple syrup and fresh fruit. With these, you can do Veggie Frittata Muffins or Tofu Chickpea Frittata, and Raspberry Chia Pudding.
“These french toast sticks were amazing. The best part was dipping them in maple syrup!”

This was really really good!!! And deifnitely don’t soak. I didn’t think I’d be a big deal and the first batch went bye bye 😂 super delicious!
Natalie says
It was tasty and we enjoyed it! Only reason i’m giving it 4 out of 5 is because it was kind of soggy (and I didn’t soak the sticks) even after browning on the pan but maybe it’s because I used homemade cashew milk vs store bought.
After I cooked them up on the pan I added them to the air fryer for 5 mins on each side and got the crispy texture I was looking for!!
Thanks!

I don’t own a coated pan, so I’m going to try this on “V-buttered” parchment paper in the air fryer. It should crisp up nicely.
