Notes on Ingredients
- Jackfruit: You’ll need two cans (~20oz each) of jackfruit in brine or water. I like to get mine from Trader Joe’s. Don’t use fresh jackfruit.
- Cabbage: Adds a delicious crunch to the sandwiches. I like to toss the cabbage in 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar first for flavor.
- Burger Buns: Feel free to use gluten-free buns if needed.
- Ketchup: The base of the homemade BBQ sauce recipe. Look for an organic, no-sugar-added ketchup.

Drain the cans of jackfruit very well. No need to rinse. You will cook the jackfruit down in a pan to let all of the remaining moisture come out.
Nope, you can use store-bought to save time. I just find it difficult to find a clean ingredient BBQ sauce that I enjoy!
I love to make Vegan Jackfruit Brisket (Jewish-style!) but you can use it in a variety of vegan and vegetarian recipes!
