The ever popular Happy Meal has ingredients that sure don’t make me smile. I thought, why not make my own vegan version, a Healthy Happy Meal that kids will love the taste of, and parents will be happy to make for their kids (and even themselves!)

What ingredients do I need for this Healthy Happy Meal?
Tofu McNuggets:
high protein firm tofu: high protein firm tofu will hold the shape best and not crumble.
breadcrumbs: check the ingredients label to make sure there are no added eggs if you are vegan.
whole wheat flour or gluten free flour
water or soy milk
salt, pepper, and garlic to season
Oven/Air-Fried Fries:
russet potato: russet potatoes will give the true “french fry” taste.
olive oil spray
sea salt
How do you make a Healthy Happy Meal?
Tofu McNuggets
- Cut a block of tofu in half.
- Cut the half block into 6 pieces then shape them into nuggets. Save the extra shavings broken off for another meal!
- In a bowl mix the flour and milk to make a batter.
- Then pour the breadcrumbs on a plate with salt, pepper and garlic.
- Next, dip the tofu in the batter, then roll in breadcrumbs.
- Lay the nuggets on a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with olive oil and bake/air fry at 400 for 20 min or until golden and crispy!
Fries
- Peeling the potato is optional, then cut the potato into thin fries and lay on a baking sheet with parchment.
- Spray with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt.
- Bake or air fry at 400 F. until crispy/golden brown! This should take about 1-20 minutes.

Is it a lot more expensive?
Actually, no, it is cheaper! It comes out to be just over $2 per serving!
What type of breadcrumbs and ketchup should I use?
I always look for a vegan breadcrumb without any eggs in it that also has “cleaner” ingredients. If your store doesn’t have one, you could always blend up crackers in a food processor. For ketchup, I opt for a cleaner one with better ingredients like Primal Kitchen.
Does the type of potato matter?
You can use any type of potato, but russet will give the true french fry taste. Another option is to use sweet potato to make sweet potato fries.
Extra Helpful Tips
- Make sure to get extra firm tofu so the nuggets can stay intact and form a nugget shape.
- Flip the nuggets half way through if you like them extra crispy.
- Cut the fries to your preferred thickness. You can have them thin or more like wedges. Just keep in mind that thicker fries may take longer to cook.

How to Store
Store the nuggets and the fries in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, air fry or bake for about 10-12 minutes until the middle is warm and the outside is crispy again.
