Total Time 35 minutes

Ingredients

Homemade BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup organic ketchup
  • 6 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2/3 cup water

Other

  • 1 block tempeh

Instructions

BBQ Sauce

  • Add all ingredients for bbq sauce into a small/medium pot and bring to a boil, reduce heat to low/medium and let cook until thick, stirring occasionally. Should take 20-30 minutes or until it thickens up nicely.

Tempeh

  • Cut the tempeh into strips about 3/4 inch thick.
  • For firm ribs: Grill/saute them on medium heat in a non-stick pan until golden brown on each side.
  • For softer/tender ribs: Saute them in 2-3 tbsp water for about 4 minutes on each side.
  • Turn heat on low and pour in 3/4 cup bbq sauce. Toss and make sure they are evenly coated.
  • Brush on more bbq sauce for serving.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

There will be extra BBQ sauce! Use as much or as little as you'd like or use store bought to make this faster but I highly recommend this healthy, delicious plant-based bbq sauce.
