Vegan French Toast Sticks (oil-free)

I can’t handle how delicious this recipe for vegan french toast sticks turned out. You know that feeling on Sunday mornings when all you want is some french toast with maple syrup on the side?! I totally understand.

This is the perfect breakfast or side dish with a vegan brunch.

You will be obsessed – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, perfectly paired with maple syrup. I added a secret ingredient to make this absolutely decadent for the fall season. Pumpkin pie spice is added to the batter and omg…it’s a winner.

What is the best bread to use for these vegan french toast sticks?

I recommend using a sprouted bread – so much healthier that way! I used Ezekiel bread! If you’re gluten-free, don’t worry, you can use any gluten-free bread you like. The Ezekiel bread held up really well, however, if you choose to use frozen Ezekiel bread, keep the loaf in the fridge or let it thaw completely before making this recipe! You will need 4 slices of bread for this recipe and it makes 12 french toast dippers (HOLY YUM!).

If you have picky eaters at home or if you are a picky eater yourself, you gotta make this recipe. It makes me nostalgic of my childhood when my mom would make french toast in the mornings and the whole house would smell like cinnamon and maple syrup.

Other bread recommendations: vegan challah, sourdough, soft bread of any kind, regular whole wheat, etc.

What makes this french toast healthy?

Made without any added sugar, oil-free, soy-free, gluten-free optional, egg-free, dairy-free and 100% delicious. You can still enjoy the foods you love without the guilt or unhealthy ingredients. A traditional french toast is made with sugar, eggs, a ton of butter and is filled with fat from animal products.Well folks, you can stop right here because this is probably the healthiest french toast you will ever eat. It’s quite yummy, not to toot my own horn.

There is something so warming and comforting about eating french toast (and knowing it’s healthy at the same time). Who’s with me?!

Don’t you need eggs for french toast?

You can’t even tell there is an egg missing from the vegan french toast sticks…I was surprised! I grew up with my mom always making french toast with egg so I never thought you could make a vegan version that actually tasted good. Some people choose to make their vegan french toast with a flax egg, but I found that it really doesn’t need it! I just used flax seeds but didn’t make it into an “egg”.

Also, the flax takes the place of the egg here and the vanilla really adds a nice flavor in addition to the cinnamon.

What are some toppings you recommend?

You can top the french toast sticks with whatever you want. Try them with coconut or almond whipped cream, fresh fruit like berries, sliced bananas, chopped pecans, and maple syrup. Also, try spreading a little jam on them would be heavenly.

  • raspberries
  • blueberries
  • blackberries
  • maple syrup
  • jam

This was really really good!!! And deifnitely don’t soak. I didn’t think I’d be a big deal and the first batch went bye bye 😂 super delicious!5 stars

  10. Natalie says:

It was tasty and we enjoyed it! Only reason i’m giving it 4 out of 5 is because it was kind of soggy (and I didn’t soak the sticks) even after browning on the pan but maybe it’s because I used homemade cashew milk vs store bought.

After I cooked them up on the pan I added them to the air fryer for 5 mins on each side and got the crispy texture I was looking for!!

    Thanks!4 stars
