Crispy Vegan Air-Fryer Wontons

Omg! Crispy vegan air-fryer wontons are going to be your new obsession. You can now make homemade wontons at home in your air-fryer! Don’t have an air-fryer? Don’t worry, you can pan fry them as well. I have included both methods for air-frying and pan-frying.The best part about these is that they’re vegan, healthy and fun to make.

These taste like you got them at a restaurant. You will impress your family and family with this recipe whether they’re vegan or not!

How do you make the filling?

First, chop onion, carrots, and cabbage as small as you can. Don’t feel like chopping? Pulse them in the food processor! It’s much easier that way. Saute the veggies in a pan along with tofu, garlic, ginger and soy sauce. You can use coconut aminos too if you want, instead of the soy sauce. Feel free to use any veggies you like.

Use about 1 – 1.5 tsp of the filling in each wonton wrapper. Check out this youtube video on how to fold a wonton multiple ways!

Where do you find vegan wonton wrappers?

Almost every grocery store sells wonton wrappers! Check the asian section, or the refrigerated section will most likely have them since they’re fresh. If you go to an asian market they will for sure have them. I’ve seen wonton wrappers at multiple mainstream groceries stores so you should be able to find them easily. Some have eggs in them so make sure to get vegan ones if you’re vegan.

Folding the Wontons

Add the filling into the center of each wonton wrapper. Fold the wrapper over to form a triangle. Seal the edges with water. Take each of the triangles points and pull them behind the wonton and press the edges together. There should be pictures and directions on the back of the wonton wrapper package with detailed instructions!

How long do these crispy vegan air-fryer wontons take to make?

The prep time is about 25-30 minutes but the cooking time is only 5-minutes! Be careful not to burn these – the wonton wrappers are very thin are burn easily. You’ll cook them at 350 degrees F in the air-fryer for 5 minutes or until golden brown. They don’t take long at all and are simply delicious. They honestly taste like they’re from a restaurant.

If you have other people besides yourself at your disposal, I’d recommend forming the wontons themselves with friends or family! It will go much faster if you have multiple hands making them. It took my fiance and I about 15 minutes together to form them.

Why is it important to use organic produce?

I used the fresh organic green cabbage for these crispy vegan air-fryer wontons from Josie’s Organicsan amazing all organic company that grows their produce in the fertile California Valley. Their family farming business dates back to the 1920’s, when two young Swiss immigrants, Sebastian and Josie Braga decided to start growing beets, tomatoes, onions, hay and corn.

Today, three generations later, the organic family farming tradition is being kept alive! Josie’s Organics harvests over 25 varieties of USDA certified organic veggies. I love their inspiring story and love supporting them by buying their produce!

Josie’s Organics doesn’t use any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides on their farms. This is so important! If I see Josie’s Organics in the grocery store, I snatch it up real quick because it’s truly such fresh produce. You can find their produce at stores like Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Sprouts and many more. Be sure to look out for Josie’s Organics in your local store! Use their store locator here!

What makes these wontons healthy?

They are 100% vegan, plant-based, are filled with veggies that have a ton of antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin A and plant-protein from the tofu. I used high-protein tofu so it’s double the protein of normal tofu. These are relatively low fat because they are air-fried instead of deep fried! This saves you so many calories but the flavor is still out of control. The protein from the tofu and fiber from the veggies helps to keep you full while also giving you a delicious appetizer or meal.

These are oil-free optional, gluten-free optional if you can find gf wonton wrappers, and can be made soy-free if you replace tofu with mushrooms!

What if I don’t have an air-fryer?

You can also pan-fry these crispy vegan air-fryer wontons. Just simply pan fry them on medium heat for 2 minutes per side or until golden brown. You can also try baking these in the oven but I believe pan-frying would be the best alternative to air-frying. Use a non-stick pan if you’re oil-free or if you aren’t you can pan fry in sesame oil, avocado oil or olive oil. You only need a small amount of oil.

Don’t have an air-fryer but want one? This is the air-fryer I recommend! I have the white one.

A few important tips:

  • Don’t overstuff your wontons! They won’t seal shut if they are too full.
  • Seal the wontons with water!
  • If you’re using an air-fryer – these wontons only take 5 minutes. Please watch these carefully so they don’t burn! I wouldn’t set the air-fryer higher than 350 degrees F.
  • They will taste best serve fresh!
  • See above for pan-frying instructions if you don’t have an air-fryer.

  3. Genavie says:

Is there a way to make these ahead of time. Could you make filling and fold wontons then put in the freezer, then grab and air fry when ready?

    1. Danielle Keith says:

      absolutely!

  4. Karen Orban says:

I made these and liked them. Today I’m using this idea and putting apples cooked down. With cinnamon and maple syrup. I’ll put a little syrup and sprinkled sugar on top. Mini apple pies.5 stars

  5. Amy says:

So good!!! We are very new to vegan eating and my kids have been skeptical for sure. Today they helped make this and we all loved it. Unfortunately not any leftover for my husband when he gets home so we’ll just have to make again! Definitely could have used more wonton wrappers as we had a lot of filling leftover but we just ate that with a spoon 😊. Can’t wait to try more of your recipes!5 stars
